Overview
Ministers are set apart by God to preach the gospel, teach Scripture, and lead the church in holiness. They are called to exemplify Christ's character, speak truth with gentleness, and serve sacrificially. The pastoral office carries both privilege and solemn responsibility before God.
Key Scriptures
"Whoever speaks, let him speak as one who speaks the oracles of God; whoever serves, let him serve as one who by the strength that God supplies, in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 4:11, ESV).
"We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20, ESV).
"The lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty" (Malachi 2:7, NIV).
Application
Support your pastor in prayer, hold him accountable to Scripture, and recognize that faithful ministry requires both God's empowerment and the congregation's spiritual cooperation.
