Overview
Prophecy in Scripture involves believers speaking God's Word with divine authority and insight. The prophetic gift, listed among spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:10, edifies the church and declares God's truth. All Scripture is ultimately prophetic, given by the Holy Spirit through human writers (2 Peter 1:21), and the entirety of Scripture testifies to Christ (Acts 10:43).
Key Scriptures
"So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation" (Hebrews 9:28, KJV). "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10, NASB). "For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty" (2 Peter 1:16, NASB).
Application
Test all prophetic claims against Scripture alone, recognizing that God's Word is complete and sufficient for faith and practice, with nothing to be added or removed from it (Revelation 22:18-19).
