Sins, National

National sins are corporate transgressions committed by a people or nation that incur God's judgment. Scripture reveals that nations are morally accountable to God and face consequences for rejecting His law and purposes.

Overview

God holds nations accountable for their collective sins and rebellion against His standards. When a people forsake God's law, practice injustice, and reject His prophets, divine judgment follows. Nations that know God's requirements but deliberately disobey face particular accountability before Him.

Key Scriptures

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (Proverbs 14:34, NIV).

"What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?" (Isaiah 5:4, NIV). God judges nations that refuse to bear fruit of obedience.

"Therefore I am against you, declares the Lord Almighty. I will turn my hand against you; I will wipe away your sinful residue" (Isaiah 5:25, ESV).

"You alone have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins" (Amos 3:2, NIV).

Application

Christians should pray for their nation's repentance and righteousness, recognizing that national judgment stems from corporate sin against God's revealed truth.
