Overview
Temptation is not inherently sinful—it is the solicitation toward evil that tests our faith and character. God never tempts anyone to sin (James 1:13), yet He allows trials that strengthen our dependence on Him. We are called to actively avoid the paths of temptation and to trust God's provision for escape.
Key Scriptures
"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to mankind; but God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also" (1 Corinthians 10:13, NASB).
"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him" (James 1:12, NASB).
"Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away" (Proverbs 4:14-15, KJV).
Application
Flee from situations and companions that lead toward sin, and in moments of temptation, claim God's promise of escape through prayer and obedience to His Word.
