Rocks

Rocks in Scripture represent both God's strength and protection as well as obstacles to faith and obedience. They appear throughout the Bible as symbols of God's unchanging nature and as tests of human trust.

Overview

Rocks serve multiple spiritual purposes in Scripture. They represent God's solid protection and strength for His people, His unchanging character, and sometimes obstacles that test faith. God frequently used rocks as altars and memorials to mark His covenant work.

Key Scriptures

"For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock" (Psalm 27:5, KJV).

"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings" (Psalm 40:2, KJV).

"He made him suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock" (Deuteronomy 32:13, KJV).

Application

Trust in God's solid, unchanging character as your foundation, and remove any "rocky ground" of shallow faith through deeper commitment to Scripture and prayer.
