Trinity, the

The Trinity is the biblical doctrine that God exists eternally as one being in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each fully God and equally worthy of worship. This foundational truth appears throughout Scripture, revealing God's nature and His work in creation and redemption.

Overview

The Trinity describes the mysterious reality that the one true God exists as three distinct persons who share one divine essence. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are presented throughout Scripture as fully divine, actively involved in creation, salvation, and sanctification. While the word 'Trinity' itself does not appear in the Bible, the doctrine emerges clearly from biblical teaching about God's nature.

Key Scriptures

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14, ESV).

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19, ESV).

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1, ESV), and "the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters" (Genesis 1:2, ESV).

Application

Recognizing God's trinitarian nature deepens our worship and helps us understand how the Father, Son, and Spirit work together in our salvation and sanctification.
