Rebellion Against God

173 scripture references across 63 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Rebellion against God manifests when people knowingly turn from His Word and ways. This defiance stems from a sinful heart that exalts human will above God's sovereignty. Throughout Scripture, God's people repeatedly rebelled, and He responded with both correction and patience, calling them back to obedience.

Key Scriptures

"Therefore they know the works of the LORD and understand what he has done" (Psalm 107:11, ESV). "They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law" (Psalm 78:10, KJV). "I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts" (Isaiah 65:2, KJV). "Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear" (Ezekiel 2:8, NIV).

Application

Examine your heart for areas where you resist God's clear commands in Scripture, and repent, submitting afresh to His lordship through faith in Christ.
