Humility

Humility is the biblical virtue of recognizing our complete dependence on God and our unworthiness before Him, while gladly serving others. It is demonstrated through Christ's example and is essential for spiritual growth and authentic Christian leadership.

Overview

Humility involves acknowledging our limitations, our need for God's grace, and the proper perspective of our place in His creation. Rather than self-deprecation, biblical humility means honest self-assessment before God and a willingness to serve others sacrificially, following Christ's pattern of humble leadership.

Key Scriptures

"Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:26-28, ESV).

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant... and became obedient to the point of death" (Philippians 2:5-8, ESV).

David responded to God's covenant: "Who am I, O Lord God?" (2 Samuel 7:18, ESV).

Application

Cultivate humility by regularly acknowledging God's greatness in prayer, serving others without seeking recognition, and viewing yourself honestly through Scripture's lens.
