Reasoning

Reasoning is the mental faculty God gave humans to think, discern, and understand His truth. Scripture calls us to use sound reasoning while recognizing that human wisdom must be submitted to God's Word.

Overview

God created humans with the capacity to reason and think critically. Throughout Scripture, believers are invited to reason through God's Word and His ways. However, our reasoning must be guided by Scripture and submitted to God's wisdom, not exalted above it.

Key Scriptures

"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18, ESV).

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:5, ESV).

"There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12, NIV).

Application

Exercise your God-given reasoning abilities by studying Scripture carefully, but always subject your conclusions to the authority of God's Word rather than trusting your reasoning as the final standard of truth.
