Overview
The Bible portrays Satan as a real personal being, not merely a symbol of evil. He is described as the father of lies (Genesis 3:4-5), the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2), and one who actively opposes God's purposes. However, Scripture affirms that Satan's power is subordinate to God's authority and that Christ has triumphed over him decisively.
Key Scriptures
"The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8, NASB). "No one can enter the strong man's house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house" (Matthew 12:29, NASB). "I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan" (Revelation 2:9, NASB).
Application
Recognize Satan's schemes and deceptions while living in confidence that Christ's victory is complete and available to believers through faith and obedience to God's Word.
