Instability

Instability refers to the lack of steadfastness, consistency, or reliability in faith and conduct. Scripture warns against wavering commitment to God and His Word.

Overview

Instability is a spiritual condition where believers or nations fail to maintain consistent devotion to God. The Bible shows that instability leads to poor decisions, broken covenants, and divine judgment. Those unstable in faith are easily swayed from God's truth and commands.

Key Scriptures

"Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father's bed; then you defiled it" (Genesis 49:4, ESV). "They soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel" (Psalm 106:13, ESV). "All the people bowed down; then they came back and stood at a distance, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was" (Exodus 20:21, ESV)—illustrating Israel's wavering faith at Sinai.

Application

Believers must anchor themselves firmly in Scripture and God's character, resisting the temptation to drift toward worldly values or compromise their convictions based on circumstances.
