Scoffing

Scoffing is the sin of mocking God, His Word, and His ways, often characterized by pride and rebellion. Scripture warns that scoffers face serious consequences while calling believers to reject this destructive attitude.

Overview

Scoffing represents a hardened rejection of God's truth through mockery and contempt. Throughout Scripture, scoffers are portrayed as proud individuals who despise God's commands and ridicule those who follow Him. This sin often leads to judgment and ruin.

Key Scriptures

"For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and your children will find compassion before those who led them captive, and will return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him" (2 Chronicles 30:9, ESV).

"Do not be stiff-necked like your fathers, but yield yourselves to the Lord and come to his sanctuary" (2 Chronicles 30:8, ESV).

"They say to God, 'Depart from us!' For we desire not the knowledge of your ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?" (Job 21:14-15, ESV).

Application

Guard your heart against pride and scoffing by regularly meditating on God's Word and maintaining a humble, reverent attitude toward His commands.
