Overview
From the account of Sodom in Genesis to the New Testament epistles, Scripture presents sodomy as a serious violation of God's created order for sexuality. The practice is explicitly forbidden in the Mosaic Law and condemned as incompatible with Christian faith and conduct.
Key Scriptures
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination" (Leviticus 18:22, ESV).
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men" (Romans 1:26-27, ESV).
"The law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality" (1 Timothy 1:9-10, ESV).
Application
Believers are called to affirm God's standard for sexuality while extending Christ's love and gospel message to all people, including those struggling with same-sex attraction.
