Righteousness Imputed

Righteousness imputed is God's act of crediting Christ's perfect righteousness to believers through faith alone, declaring them legally righteous before Him. This is the heart of justification and the foundation of the gospel.

Overview

Imputed righteousness means that God transfers or credits Christ's righteousness to believers' accounts. This is not righteousness we achieve or earn, but rather God's gift received through faith in Christ. Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3), establishing the pattern for all who trust Christ as Savior.

Key Scriptures

"Abraham believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15:6, ESV). "But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe" (Romans 3:21-22, ESV). "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV).

Application

Trust Christ completely for your standing before God, knowing that His perfect righteousness—not your performance—is what makes you acceptable to the Father.
