Orphan

49 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Throughout Scripture, orphans represent the vulnerable and defenseless who require special care and protection. God repeatedly commands His people to safeguard orphans' rights, provide for their material needs, and show them mercy. This obligation reflects both God's character as a defender of the weak and His people's calling to live out His justice and compassion.

Key Scriptures

"You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you afflict them at all, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry" (Exodus 22:22-23, ESV).

"Blessed is the man who was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame... The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me" (Job 29:12-13, ESV).
