Weeping

Weeping in Scripture encompasses both the sorrow of grief and repentance, and the comfort found in God's presence during suffering. The Bible presents weeping as a genuine human response that God acknowledges and ultimately transforms.

Overview

Weeping appears throughout Scripture as a natural expression of sorrow, loss, and repentance. Jesus himself wept, validating tears as appropriate responses to human suffering. God promises that He will ultimately end all tears and mourning, transforming weeping into joy through His redemptive work.

Key Scriptures

"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep" (Romans 12:15, ESV). "They will come back to this place with joyful singing and lasting joy on their heads. Sorrow and sighing will flee away" (Isaiah 35:10, NIV). "Jesus wept" (John 11:35, ESV). "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore" (Revelation 21:4, ESV).

Application

Allow yourself and others to grieve authentically before the Lord, knowing that He sees your tears and will ultimately redeem your sorrow through Christ's victory.
