When Asher was born, Leah declared, "Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed." Asher had four sons and one daughter. Jacob's blessing prophesied that Asher's food would be rich and that he would provide royal delicacies. The tribe of Asher received fertile land along the Mediterranean coast. During the time of the judges, Asher failed to drive out the Canaanites from their territory. In the New Testament, the prophetess Anna came from the tribe of Asher.
