Prayer, Intercessory

Intercessory prayer is the practice of praying on behalf of others, bringing their needs before God with faith and persistence. Scripture demonstrates that God honors intercession and uses it to accomplish His purposes.

Overview

Intercessory prayer involves standing in the gap for others, presenting their requests to God as though they were our own. Abraham's intercession for Sodom and Eliezer's prayer for guidance in finding a wife demonstrate that God listens to prayers offered on behalf of others and responds according to His will and character.

Key Scriptures

"Then Abraham approached him and said: 'Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?'" (Genesis 18:23, NIV). "I pray, therefore, first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all people" (1 Timothy 2:1, ESV). "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you" (1 Samuel 12:23, NIV).

Application

Develop a consistent practice of interceding for family members, church leaders, government officials, and missionaries, trusting that God hears and acts upon prayers offered with faith and biblical alignment.
