Shekinah

The Shekinah is the visible manifestation of God's glory and presence, particularly dwelling between the cherubim above the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies. It represents God's covenant faithfulness and intimate presence with His people.

Overview

The Shekinah glory refers to the tangible, visible presence of God that dwelt in the tabernacle and temple. This divine presence symbolized God's covenant with Israel and His willingness to dwell among His people. The Shekinah appeared as a brilliant light or cloud, most notably resting upon the mercy seat where God met with the high priest.

Key Scriptures

"And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony" (Exodus 25:22, NASB).

"The Lord sits enthroned above the cherubim; let the earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion, and He is exalted above all the peoples" (Psalms 80:1, NASB).

"Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub to the threshold of the temple" (Ezekiel 10:18, ESV), indicating the Lord's departure due to Israel's unfaithfulness.

Application

Believers today encounter God's presence through the Holy Spirit indwelling them, fulfilling the reality that the Shekinah once foreshadowed.
