Overview
Jesus taught that our priorities reveal what we truly treasure. While earthly treasures are temporary and can distract from faith, heavenly treasures—righteousness, Christ, and eternal rewards—are imperishable and eternally valuable. True treasure is found in knowing and following Jesus.
Key Scriptures
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (Matthew 6:19, ESV).
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field" (Matthew 13:44, ESV).
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us" (2 Corinthians 4:7, ESV).
Application
Regularly examine your financial priorities and time investments to ensure they reflect an eternal perspective rather than temporary earthly gain.
