Overview
Scripture presents prosperity as a gift from God conditional upon obedience and worship. However, the Bible warns that material blessing frequently leads to spiritual pride and forgetfulness of the Lord. Prosperity itself is not sinful, but the human tendency to attribute success to personal effort rather than God's provision creates a critical spiritual danger.
Key Scriptures
"When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you" (Deuteronomy 8:10, NIV). "Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God... Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God" (Deuteronomy 8:11-14, NIV). "Remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth" (Deuteronomy 8:18, NIV).
Application
Cultivate a discipline of regularly acknowledging God as the source of all provision, guarding your heart against pride when He grants material increase.
