Molech

27 scripture references across 3 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Molech was a false god associated with the Ammonites to whom people made human sacrifices, particularly of children. Despite God's explicit prohibition and severe penalties, some unfaithful Israelite kings and peoples adopted this abominable practice, especially during times of spiritual decline. The worship of Molech represents the ultimate rejection of God's covenant and the perversion of conscience.

Key Scriptures

"You shall not give any of your offspring to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord" (Leviticus 18:21, ESV).

"If a man gives any of his offspring to Molech, he shall surely be put to death" (Leviticus 20:2, ESV).

"You took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured" (Ezekiel 16:20, ESV).

Application

Recognize that any practice or ideology that devalues human life—especially children—contradicts God's design and demands our faithful opposition and intercession.
