Overview
Egypt held significant importance in biblical history as a major world power and a place where God's people sought shelter during times of famine and persecution. However, Scripture reveals God's sovereignty over Egypt and pronounces judgment against nations that oppose His will and His people.
Key Scriptures
"Concerning Egypt: This is the message about the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah" (Jeremiah 46:2, NIV). "In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear by the Lord of hosts; one will be called the City of the Sun" (Isaiah 19:18, ESV). "When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them" (Isaiah 19:20, NIV).
Application
Trust that God's purposes will be fulfilled regardless of earthly powers, and recognize that even nations opposed to God's people ultimately serve His sovereign plan.
