Overview

Egypt held significant importance in biblical history as a major world power and a place where God's people sought shelter during times of famine and persecution. However, Scripture reveals God's sovereignty over Egypt and pronounces judgment against nations that oppose His will and His people.

"Concerning Egypt: This is the message about the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah" (Jeremiah 46:2, NIV).
