Overview
Self-exaltation reflects a heart turned inward, seeking personal glory and honor rather than the advancement of God's kingdom. Throughout Scripture, we see that God opposes the proud and exalts the humble. Those who promote themselves above others and take credit that belongs to God alone will ultimately face humiliation.
Key Scriptures
"Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god, I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your heart." (Ezekiel 31:10-11, NIV)
"The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to the ground?' Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the Lord." (Obadiah 1:3-4, NIV)
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31, NIV)
Application
Before accepting praise or taking pride in accomplishments, redirect all glory to God as the source of every ability and blessing.
