Sea

The sea is God's creation, subject to His sovereign control and used throughout Scripture as a setting for demonstrating His power and majesty over nature and human fear.

Overview

God created the seas on the third day of creation and declared them good (Genesis 1:9-10). The sea serves as a symbol of God's power, majesty, and dominion throughout Scripture. Numerous biblical narratives showcase Jesus Christ's authority over the sea, calming storms and walking upon water to demonstrate His divinity and to teach His disciples about faith.

Key Scriptures

"And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but Jesus was asleep." (Matthew 8:24, ESV)

"And he awoke and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm." (Matthew 8:26, ESV)

"The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands." (Psalms 19:1, NASB) - reflecting God's creation including the seas.

Application

When facing overwhelming circumstances, remember that the God who commands the seas and calms the storms is sovereign over your life, calling you to trust in His power rather than fear your circumstances.
