Pleading

Pleading refers to making an earnest appeal or petition, often before authority figures or God, demonstrated throughout Scripture in legal proceedings and personal confession.

Overview

Pleading involves making urgent requests or appeals, whether before earthly judges, civil authorities, or the Lord. Scripture shows pleading as both a legal necessity when facing accusation and a spiritual practice of honest appeal. The term encompasses both defensive pleading before magistrates and humble confession before God.

Key Scriptures

"Then Jesus said to him, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' And He said to him, 'You have said so.'" (Mark 15:2, ESV). "Joshua said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to the Lord God of Israel and give praise to him. And tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.' And Achan answered Joshua, 'Truly I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I did'" (Joshua 7:19-20, ESV). "As the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching, Jesus answered him, 'I have spoken openly to the world'" (John 18:19-20, ESV).

Application

When facing accusation or conviction, respond with honest confession rather than evasion, recognizing that transparency before God and authorities brings restoration.
