Mustard

Mustard is used in Scripture as a metaphor for faith and the kingdom of God, illustrating how something small can grow into something great.

Overview

Jesus used the mustard seed as a parable to teach about the nature of God's kingdom and the power of faith. Though one of the smallest seeds, the mustard plant grows into a large tree, demonstrating how God's kingdom begins small but grows to encompass many believers.

Key Scriptures

"The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches." (Matthew 13:31-32, ESV)

"And Jesus said to them, 'Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.'" (Matthew 17:20, ESV)

Application

Trust that God can accomplish great things through small acts of faith and obedience in your life.
