Ananias was a devout Jewish Christian known as a “good man” among all the Jews in Damascus. God spoke to him in a vision, telling him to go to Judas’s house on Straight Street and lay hands on Saul. Ananias was understandably afraid, knowing Saul had come to arrest Christians. God reassured him that Saul was “a chosen vessel” to bear Christ’s name to Gentiles and kings. Ananias obeyed, called Saul “Brother,” healed his blindness, and baptized him. (Distinct from the Ananias who lied to Peter.)
