Aziza

An Israelite from the family of Zattu who was among those compelled by Ezra to divorce his foreign wife during the post-exilic reform.

Aziza returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel. When Ezra discovered that many Jewish men had married foreign women from surrounding pagan nations, Aziza was named specifically as one of the offenders. He was present when Ezra prayed, wept, and confessed the people's sin. After a public assembly in the rain, Aziza and others agreed to put away their foreign wives and children to restore purity to the community.
