Amon walked in all the idolatrous ways of his father Manasseh, sacrificing to carved images and forsaking the Lord. Unlike Manasseh, who repented late in life, Amon never humbled himself before God. He “multiplied trespass” and became increasingly evil. His own servants conspired against him and killed him in his own house. The “people of the land” executed the conspirators and placed his eight-year-old son, Josiah, on the throne—who became Judah’s greatest reformer.
