Sanctification

117 scripture references across 28 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Sanctification means to be set apart for God's purposes and progressively transformed into Christ's likeness. This process begins at salvation when we are declared holy in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30) and continues as the Holy Spirit empowers us to live out that calling. God both accomplishes this work and calls us to participate in it through obedience.

Key Scriptures

"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 5:23, KJV).

"For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified" (Hebrews 10:14, KJV).

"It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality" (1 Thessalonians 4:3, NIV).

Application

Pursue holiness daily by yielding to the Holy Spirit's work in your life, obey God's Word, and trust that He is completing the sanctification He began in you at conversion.
