Rachel named him Ben-oni ("son of my sorrow") as she died in childbirth, but Jacob renamed him Benjamin ("son of the right hand"). Joseph, his older full brother, demanded Benjamin be brought to Egypt during the famine. Judah offered himself as a substitute when the "stolen" cup was found in Benjamin's sack. The tribe of Benjamin remained loyal to David and later produced King Saul, Esther, Mordecai, and the Apostle Paul. The tribe was nearly wiped out in a civil war but survived.
Note: Please Read Genesis Chapters 43-45 for more information about Benjamin
