Athaliah married Jehoram, king of Judah, and brought Baal worship to Jerusalem. When her son Ahaziah was killed by Jehu, Athaliah seized power by murdering all the royal heirs—including, she believed, all her own grandchildren. However, one infant, Joash, was rescued and hidden in the Temple for six years by his aunt Jehosheba. At age seven, Joash was proclaimed king by the priest Jehoiada. Athaliah rushed into the Temple crying "Treason!" but was seized and executed.
