Siloam

Siloam was a pool in Jerusalem with significant spiritual importance, most notably as the place where Jesus healed a man born blind, demonstrating His power and authority as the Light of the world.

Overview

The Pool of Siloam was located in southeast Jerusalem and served as a water source for the city. It is mentioned in connection with Jerusalem's walls and water systems (Nehemiah 3:15), and Isaiah referenced it as a symbol of God's gentle care (Isaiah 8:6). However, Siloam is best known from Jesus's healing miracle recorded in John 9.

Key Scriptures

"As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him'" (John 9:1-3, NIV).

"Jesus answered, 'It is not that this man or his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be displayed in him... Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam'" (John 9:3, 7, ESV).

Application

Siloam reminds us that Jesus's power transforms human suffering into opportunities to display God's glory and demonstrate His compassion.
