Obed

Obed was the son of Boaz and Ruth, whose lineage led directly to King David and ultimately to Jesus Christ. His life demonstrates God's faithfulness in providing redemption and blessing through seemingly impossible circumstances.

Overview

Obed was born to Ruth the Moabitess and Boaz in Bethlehem, representing the culmination of Ruth's redemption story. Though Ruth was a foreigner and a widow without heir, God orchestrated events to bring her into the lineage of Israel's greatest king. Obed became the father of Jesse, who fathered King David, making him a vital link in the genealogy of the Messiah.

Key Scriptures

"Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her lap and became his nurse. And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, 'A son has been born to Naomi.' They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David." (Ruth 4:16-17, ESV)

"Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse" (Ruth 4:21-22, NASB)

"David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah" (1 Chronicles 3:5, showing continuation of this line)

Application

Trust that God weaves together unexpected circumstances and humble people into His sovereign plan of redemption.
