Overview
Naval activities in Scripture are recorded as part of God's provision for His people and their nations. Ancient Israel established fleets for trade and military purposes, particularly during the reigns of Solomon and other kings. These maritime ventures reflect God's sovereignty over all human activity, including commerce and defense at sea.
Key Scriptures
"King Solomon also built a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom" (1 Kings 9:26, ESV). "Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with the finest gold. The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top, and on both sides of the seat were armrests and two lions standing beside the armrests" (1 Kings 10:18-19, ESV). The prophecy concerning future conflicts mentions: "For ships of Kittim shall come against him" (Daniel 11:30, ESV).
Application
Believers can trust that God orchestrates events in all spheres of life, from commerce to military affairs, working His purposes through human activity.
