Messenger

A messenger in Scripture is one called by God to deliver His word to His people, whether as a prophet, apostle, or John the Baptist preparing the way for Christ. God's messengers bear the responsibility of faithfully communicating His truth.

Overview

God appointed messengers throughout Scripture to speak on His behalf to His people. These messengers—whether prophets like Haggai or John the Baptist—were chosen to call people to repentance and to proclaim God's will. The ultimate Messenger is Christ Himself, preceded by John the Baptist who prepared the way.

Key Scriptures

"Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me" (Malachi 3:1, ESV). "The lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 2:7, ESV). "John...came as a witness to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him" (John 1:6-7, ESV).

Application

Recognize that God still calls believers today to share His gospel message faithfully, and ensure you handle Scripture with care when communicating God's truth to others.
