Impenitence

Impenitence is the stubborn refusal to repent of sin and turn from wickedness, which brings God's judgment and condemnation. Scripture warns that those who harden their hearts against God's correction and refuse to acknowledge their sin face His wrath.

Overview

Impenitence represents a willful rejection of repentance and a hardened resistance to God's correction. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly calls His people to turn from sin, yet impenitence—the refusal to do so—provokes His judgment. This obstinate rejection of God's grace separates sinners from His mercy and blessing.

Key Scriptures

"The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But as for me, by Your great mercy I will enter Your house, at Your holy temple I will bow in reverence of You" (Psalm 7:11-13, NASB). "The wicked are estranged from the womb; these who speak lies go astray from birth" (Psalm 58:3, ESV). "And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you seven times over for your sins" (Leviticus 26:18, NIV).

Application

Examine your heart honestly: are you quick to repent when the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin, or do you find yourself resisting and hardening your heart against God's correction?
