Overview
The wave offering involved raising or waving sacrificial portions before the Lord as an act of presentation and consecration. Performed by the priest, these offerings included parts of peace offerings, grain offerings, and portions from ordination sacrifices. The wave offering signified that the gift was lifted up to God and then returned for the priest's use.
Key Scriptures
"And he shall bring from the ram of the ordination offering its fat: the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the two kidneys and the fat on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ordination)" (Exodus 29:22, ESV). "Then Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering—these were an ordination offering with a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord" (Leviticus 8:28, ESV). "And the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a contribution from the sacrifice of your peace offerings" (Leviticus 7:30, ESV).
