Kir-Haraseth

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Kir-Haraseth (also called Kir of Moab) was the fortified capital of the Moabite kingdom east of the Dead Sea. The city experienced a devastating siege during the reign of Jehoram of Israel, when the combined forces of Israel, Judah, and Edom attacked Moab in response to their rebellion and failure to pay tribute. This historical event demonstrates God's sovereignty over nations and His judgment against those who reject His authority.

Key Scriptures

"When Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel" (2 Kings 3:5, NIV). "When the king of Moab saw that the battle had gone against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they failed" (2 Kings 3:26, ESV). "Then he took his firstborn son who was to reign in his place and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall" (2 Kings 3:27, NASB).

Application

Remember that God judges nations and individuals who persistently reject His authority, calling us to honor Him in both personal and corporate obedience.
