Kattath

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Kattath was one of several cities designated as a Levitical city within the tribal allotment of Zebulun. These cities were established to provide dwelling places for the Levites, who were set apart for priestly and temple service throughout Israel and had no territorial inheritance of their own.

Key Scriptures

"From the tribe of Zebulun they gave Jokneam with its pasturelands and Kartah with its pasturelands and Dimna with its pasturelands and Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities" (1 Chronicles 6:73, ESV). The parallel passage states: "And out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands and Kartah with its pasturelands and Rimmon with its pasturelands and Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities" (Joshua 21:34, ESV). Joshua 21:41 affirms: "The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands" (ESV).

Application

Reflect on how God providentially provides for His servants and how the Old Testament pattern of supporting religious leaders prefigures New Testament principles of caring for those in ministry.
