Kidron

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

The Kidron Valley (also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat) was a ravine east of Jerusalem separating the city from the Mount of Olives. It held spiritual significance as a place of judgment and cleansing, where faithful kings destroyed idolatrous objects. Jesus crossed the Kidron on His way to Gethsemane before His arrest and crucifixion.

Key Scriptures

"King Asa even removed his mother Maacah from being queen mother, because she had made a horrible image as an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image and crushed it at the brook Kidron." (1 Kings 15:13, NASB)

"When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples." (John 18:1, NASB)

Application

Reflect on how crossing the Kidron represents moving from the comfort of the city to surrender in Gethsemane, challenging us to follow Christ's obedience even when facing suffering.
