Kir

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Kir was a significant location in ancient Moab, east of the Dead Sea. The Bible references Kir as a place where God would exile the people of Damascus and as the ancestral homeland of the Arameans. These references demonstrate God's control over the nations and His use of exile as judgment.

Key Scriptures

"The Lord will send a destroyer against you; he will tear down your strongholds and your fortifications will be broken down. The people of Kir will be exiled, and I will destroy the king of Damascus, says the Lord" (Amos 1:4-5, NIV).

"But I brought Israel up from the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir" (Amos 9:7, ESV).

"Moab is ruined and broken down. Wail for him! Cry out! Announce by the Arnon that Moab is destroyed... Judgment has come to the plateau" (Isaiah 15:1-4, ESV).

Application

Remember that God judges all nations for their sins and directs history according to His purposes, calling us to recognize His authority over all earthly powers.
