Overview
Zedekiah reigned as the last king of Judah (597-586 BC) after his nephew Jehoiachin was taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar. Despite warnings from the prophet Jeremiah, he rebelled against Babylon and refused to submit to God's word, leading to the siege and fall of Jerusalem.

"And the sons of Josiah were, the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum" (1 Chronicles 3:15, ESV).
"Thus says the Lord concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes" (Jeremiah 29:21, ESV).
"Because they have committed folly in Israel, have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them" (Jeremiah 29:23, ESV).
Application
Zedekiah's downfall reminds us that rejecting God's prophetic warnings through His Word leads to judgment and destruction.
