Jehudi

Jehudi was an official in King Jehoiakim's court who played a significant role in the confrontation between the king and the prophet Jeremiah regarding God's written word.

Overview

Jehudi served as a scribe or official in the court of King Jehoiakim of Judah. He is remembered primarily for his role in reading Jeremiah's prophetic scroll aloud before the king, and subsequently witnessing the king's defiant destruction of God's word.

Key Scriptures

"Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the room of Elishama the secretary. And Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials standing beside the king." (Jeremiah 36:21, NIV)

"Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut them off with a scribe's knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire." (Jeremiah 36:23, NIV)

Application

Jehudi's account reminds believers that God's Word endures even when human authorities reject or destroy it, challenging us to stand firm in Scripture's authority regardless of cultural opposition.
