Rings

Rings in Scripture serve as symbols of authority, covenant, wealth, and personal adornment, reflecting both God's blessing and human sinfulness. Understanding biblical references to rings reveals important spiritual truths about honor, restoration, and the dangers of pride.

Overview

Throughout Scripture, rings appear as valuable items signifying authority, covenant, and status. Kings wore signet rings as symbols of power and authority (Esther 3:10; 8:2), while fathers gave rings to restored sons as tokens of honor and reinstatement (Luke 15:22). Rings also marked betrothal and covenant relationships (Genesis 24:22; 38:18), and were among precious gifts and spoils dedicated to God (Numbers 31:50-51).

Key Scriptures

"Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand" (Luke 15:22, ESV). "The king took off his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman" (Esther 3:10, NASB). "I adorned you with ornaments and put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck. And I put a ring on your nose" (Ezekiel 16:11-12, NIV).

Application

Believers should consider how material possessions and status symbols can become objects of pride or misplaced trust, instead seeking the imperishable adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:3-4).
