RIGHT'EOUSNESS, Isa 45:23, is an essential attribute of the divine nature, and as it is frequently used is nearly allied to, if not the same with, justice, holiness, and faithfulness. Ps 119:142; Isa 46:13; Isa 51:5-6, Jer 51:8; Isa 56:1. Rom 3:21-26; Rom 10:4, Jud 10:10; 2 Cor 5:21; Gal 2:21. The word is also used to denote the perfect obedience of the Son of God. Rom 5:18. "Righteousness" is very commonly used for uprightness and just dealing between man and man, as in Isa 60:17, and for holiness of life, as in Dan 4:27; Luke 1:6; Rom 14:17; Eph 5:9.
