Overview
Snuffers were bronze or gold implements used in the tabernacle and temple to maintain the oil lamps that provided light for worship. They allowed the priests to trim burnt wicks and extinguish flames safely without damaging the lamps themselves. These tools represent the careful, intentional work required to keep the light of God's presence burning before Him.
Key Scriptures
"He made the ten lampstands of gold according to the specification for them, and set them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. He also made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. And he made a hundred basins of gold. Furthermore, he made the courtyard of the priests and the great court and doors for the court, and overlaid their doors with bronze. He set the sea on the right side of the east end, opposite the south." (2 Chronicles 4:7-8, 8, 10 ESV) "And the candlesticks with their lamps, to burn after the order before the oracle, of pure gold" (1 Kings 7:50 KJV).
Application
God values faithful maintenance in His service—just as priests cared for temple lamps, believers should diligently maintain their spiritual lives through prayer, Scripture study, and obedience.
