Sihon

Sihon was an Amorite king whose defeat by Israel under Moses demonstrated God's power to deliver His people and fulfill His promises of the Promised Land.

Overview

Sihon reigned over the Amorites east of the Jordan River during Israel's wilderness journey. When Israel requested peaceful passage through his territory, Sihon refused and instead mobilized his army against them. God empowered Israel to defeat Sihon decisively, capturing his cities and establishing a crucial foothold in Canaan east of the Jordan.

Key Scriptures

"Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. And the LORD our God gave him over to us, and we defeated him and his sons and all his people." (Deuteronomy 2:32-33, ESV)

"So we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed every city, men, women, and children. We left no survivors." (Deuteronomy 2:34, ESV)

Application

Sihon's defeat reminds believers that God removes obstacles from our path when we walk in faith and obedience, regardless of how formidable those obstacles appear.
